I once had a teacher who, when I was nervous to perform, told me that the music comes from God and we are only an instrument to communicate it to the audience. Not being a believer at the time, I dismissed the idea. But now I know she was right, and I wrote a song about it in 2009.

Lyrics:

Chorus: Sing through me, speak through me, make me your melody. Pour out your life through me, Jesus my love!

  1. Open my ear, Lord, to hear your song; the Word that you spoke when the world was born. My song is merely response to your own; sweetest of voices, make yourself known.
  2. The sheep know the sound of the shepherd’s voice; at the sound of his song they leap and rejoice. Calling together his flock for their good, keeping them safe from all harm in the world.
  3. King of the heavens your magnificent choir raise up their voices, souls blazing with fire. Oh, how I long to add my small psalm to their harmonies, molding and melting and warm.
  4. Reign now in glory o’er all that I am. Make me an instrument tuned to thy plan. I have surrendered to One I adore. He is my strength and my song evermore.
