I once had a teacher who, when I was nervous to perform, told me that the music comes from God and we are only an instrument to communicate it to the audience. Not being a believer at the time, I dismissed the idea. But now I know she was right, and I wrote a song about it in 2009.
Lyrics:
Chorus: Sing through me, speak through me, make me your melody. Pour out your life through me, Jesus my love!
- Open my ear, Lord, to hear your song; the Word that you spoke when the world was born. My song is merely response to your own; sweetest of voices, make yourself known.
- The sheep know the sound of the shepherd’s voice; at the sound of his song they leap and rejoice. Calling together his flock for their good, keeping them safe from all harm in the world.
- King of the heavens your magnificent choir raise up their voices, souls blazing with fire. Oh, how I long to add my small psalm to their harmonies, molding and melting and warm.
- Reign now in glory o’er all that I am. Make me an instrument tuned to thy plan. I have surrendered to One I adore. He is my strength and my song evermore.
